The Trient Valley

Today’s ride begins near Martigny (471m), an ancient Roman town located on the east edge of the Rhône valley. This beautiful town has amazing views and is surrounded by vineyards and high mountains.

We will ride a rather flat 7 km trail through alpine forest singletracks and narrow country roads towards the small town of Dorenaz (451m).

From Dorenaz we take the cable car up to Alesse (1,100m). From there we will ride down challenging forest roads and singletracks, some of them quite steep (!), all the way back to the cable car station in the valley.

At this point we take a short ride via country roads  to the train station in Vernayaz where we take the mountain train  to Les Marecottes (1,100m).

In Les Marecottes we will enjoy a well-deserved lunch break in one of the local restaurants.

After we finish digesting we climb 300m up the mountain above Les Marecottes and then descend an amazing and thrilling 6 KM singletrack through an alpine forest past Les Marecottes and into Salvan.

From Salvan we’ll ride all the way back to Vernayaz via the amazing “Rue de la Diligance” ancient road with 40 switchbacks which cuts through an enchanted forest.

After we reach Vernayaz we will ride back to the starting point where the transportation vehicle will wait to take us back to the hotel.
